Digital signage can be a driving force in transforming the mindset at the workplace. Use it for efficient meetings or decoration and you will make a notable change in the work environment. There are several other uses specifically aimed at enhancing wellness of the workplace environment. Of course, digital signage can only work its magic if the workplace culture is accepting of it. That will also define the uses and the extent to which it can be used to engage people. Keep that in mind as you examine the examples below and think how digital signage can be used to boost the wellness of your own workplace environment.

Break reminders

Use digital displays to remind employees of the standard break times or, in case people take breaks as needed, remind them sporadically to stretch or hydrate. In truth, unless in cases of hyper-focused work environments, people don’t truly need reminders to take breaks. Such content can enhance the overall mood and bring a sense of structure. Employees may take their breaks together and plan their day more efficiently, sparking up engagement and communication overall. Plus, such content is truly a small injection of positive content and mood, making the workplace seem a more relaxed environment. The purpose of these reminders really isn’t optimal business efficiency, but the mindset and comfort of employees.

Other content to include alongside break reminders could be breathing methods, correct stretching and posture reminders, as well as motivational content such as quotes or goals. It’s important to not do this in an overly generic and cheesy way. More on that later!

A digital announcement board

Just how you would use a regular announcement board, a digital one may act as a place to put up notes, reminders, or any other info that is not highly time-sensitive. Online this is very common, yet in a physical capacity it creates immersion and engagement among employees.

Tying your digital signage into on- and offline activities can look like automatically placing upcoming meetings on the announcement board. There’s the important business stuff, but also notes for employees. Small reminders such as “Delivery coming in at 2PM!” or “We’re going to celebrate August birthdays on Friday at 4PM!” are both fitting options. Placing these displays near the break area will achieve maximum engagement.

Entertainment

Content intended to entertain can be a distraction. As such, there’s a time and place for it. Alongside the digital announcement board, set up entertaining content which fits the culture of the workplace. Whether it be animated content, news headlines, or YouTube videos, make it a casual and fun experience to wind down.

A fun idea could be allowing employees to post content on the big screen with ease. If the posting source is connected to a data feed a moderator can approve or reject them. Posts, videos, or images which  accumulate over the week could be highlighted at the end of the work week, for example. In every community, there is an outlet for fun and off-topic conversations which are not directly work related but build team spirit. This could be a great way to give it more attention. Photos from any shared business trips or conventions are really awesome to share in such a way.

Highlight achievements and progress

On a more business-focused front, digital signage can highlight the achievements of the business and the employees. Reports on the monthly sales are a good start, but also any specific achievements which were reached. A threshold of buyers, sales, or any other progress indicators create a sense of progression and growth.

Meanwhile, individual employee achievements are also important. Aside from the employee of the month, digital signage can pinpoint project completions, performance targets, or other unique goals which were achieved. The point here truly is to show data which matters to your target audience, everyone at the workplace. If they don’t care about stats, focus on other things. “We received 10% more positive reviews this month!” or “We survived the busiest month of the year!” Even include a few customer testimonials and positive feedback to further boost morale.

Inspire and motivate

Finding a way to genuinely inspire employees through words is a real challenge. Often, people take quotes or motivational ideas as cheesy and funny instead of inspiring. It’s quite interesting, because the external audience responds better to generic content of this sort since they expect it. The internal audience is quite different. The key, which nobody else can truly find for you, is to find the source of inspiration which is relevant and works.

Consider inspirational quotes which are relatable. The quotes don’t need to stem from the greatest minds of the 20th century. A great approach is to collect funny and/or inspirational quotes as they inevitably will come up in the workplace over time. After having collected a bunch, have digital signage rotate through them on occasion.

Be mindful of content layout

An important tip is to be mindful who you create content for. The content is aimed at the internal audience of your business. Treat it as a work in progress, it doesn’t need to be perfect. The key is to engage and excite the people you know and work with. Use plain and direct language in your messaging. Ask people for their input and opinion. What motivates them, or where do they want to see a digital display on the premises? Run through a list of content ideas with them to see what they’d like to see. This info can be quickly sorted out in one meeting.

After a bit of time passess, check in and ask for opinions. Perhaps people don’t really care about their birthday being displayed on a big screen. Maybe the inspiring quotes aren’t doing anything for them. You might discover that some employees clash when it comes to posting messages or content on your internal social media wall. As we mentioned, a moderator may filter through them in an effort to keep everyone happy!
